Step 1
Fill a clean 5-gallon bucket with pool water, one inch from the top of the bucket.
Mark the water level in the bucket. A Sharpie or a piece of tape can be used.
Step 2
Place the bucket on a pool step so that it is in ~5 inches of water.
Mark the water level of the pool on the outside of the bucket. A Sharpie or a piece of tape can be used.
Step 3
Turn off your auto-fill. After 24 hours, compare the water loss from the pool to the water loss from the bucket.
If the water level of the pool drops more than the water level in the bucket, there is likely a leak in the pool.
